Conclusions

We have proved that it is feasible to isolate and transplant a composite face/scalp flap as a single unit to the back of the rats in a heterotopic fashion in the rat model. A low maintenance dose of cyclosporine A (2 mg/kg) supplied indefinite survival of the heterotopic face/scalp allograft (>400 days).
